Germany: Jürgen Klopp’s first squad announcement promises surprises

Like Zinédine Zidane with the France national team, Jürgen Klopp is preparing to make an impression from his very first squad announcement as Germany’s head coach.

According to BILD, Felix Keidel is expected to be called up, even though the 23-year-old midfielder was still playing in the third division with Ingolstadt until summer 2025. Having moved to Elversberg for around €400,000, he helped the club secure promotion before making his Bundesliga debut this season, starting in each of the first three matchdays. Keidel could therefore make his Germany debut after just a few matches in the top flight. Younes Ebnoutalib, 22, who has made a strong start to the season with Eintracht Frankfurt, is also expected to be among the new faces selected by Klopp.

According to L’Équipe, Paris Brunner also has a genuine chance of being called up after scoring five goals for AS Monaco since the start of the season. At just 20, the striker had already spoken about the national team after his brace against OM (2-0) at the end of August, while insisting that he did not want to focus on that objective.

Klopp could even unveil a very extensive squad of around 40 players before selecting 23 to face the Netherlands and Greece, then making significant rotations for the following matches against Serbia and Greece once again.
