Guinea: Who will take over the Syli National bench?
The Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT) officially closed, on Monday evening, the application period for the position of head coach of the senior national team.
This phase, launched on June 13, aimed to find a successor to Michel Dussuyer, who was dismissed due to disappointing results.
The goal is to refresh the technical staff ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
In its statement, FEGUIFOOT reminded that the requirements for applicants were strict. Candidates needed to hold a CAF Pro or UEFA Pro license, as well as significant international experience, particularly in Africa.
Hubert Velud among the frontrunners to coach the Guinean national team
Among the foreign candidates, Frenchman Hubert Velud, 66, submitted his application on Sunday. Velud is no stranger to African football, having managed the national teams of Togo and Sudan, and most recently coaching AS FAR in Morocco.
The shortlist also includes Portuguese Paulo Duarte, Swiss coach Raoul Savoy, as well as Amir Abdou, head coach of Hassania Agadir (Morocco), and Mikhail Turi.
On the Guinean side, several local coaches have also thrown their hats in the ring. Mamadouba Sylla, nicknamed "Goshi," former assistant to Dussuyer, is among the applicants.
There’s also Mory Fofana, former U20 national team coach, and Morlaye Cissé, currently in charge of the U23s. Moussa Théa, who has coached youth teams at Liverpool (England), has also applied.
Finally, Ousmane Bangoura, a former Guinean international and current coach at Chamois Niortais (France), has submitted his candidacy.
