The young Cameroonian striker Etienne Eto'o has made some sensational revelations about his father Samuel, the legendary former star of the Indomitable Lions and current president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

In a statement picked up by the Cameroonian press, he admitted that his father didn't want him to pursue a career in football.

My father, when I was a child, didn't want me to become a footballer because he thought that carrying his name would be a disadvantage for me. The expectations surrounding my father were so high that, unconsciously, people wanted to see another Eto'o. More is always expected of me.
This admission speaks volumes about the pressure he has felt ever since he decided to follow a career in football.

The young Eto'o turned heads during the 2024-2025 season with Rayo Vallecano's reserve team by netting an impressive 30 goals. This outstanding performance earned him a permanent spot in the first team's plans.
