In Bulgaria, a minute of silence in tribute to a player... alive!
In an incident that amazed many observers, the Bulgarian championship witnessed a strange situation during last Sunday's match between Levski Sofia and Arda Kardzhali.
Players observed a minute of silence before the kickoff in tribute to former Arda Kardzhali player Petko Ganchev.
A minute of silence for a "still living" player
However, what was even more astonishing was what happened during halftime. Petko Ganchev refuted the news of his own death, asking the club to ensure the accuracy of the information it releases.
In response, the Arda Kardzhali club posted a message on its official Facebook page, apologizing to the former player, his family, and his loved ones, clarifying that this misunderstanding was due to incorrect information. The club also expressed its wishes for a long life for the player.
In its statement, the club, currently fifth in the Bulgarian championship, wrote:
"The Arda club management offers its sincerest apologies to former player Petko Ganchev and his loved ones after receiving false information regarding his death."
