"It was their day": Salah reflects on elimination against PSG!

Mohamed Salah (32) admitted that Liverpool had come up against "the best team in Europe right now" when speaking about Paris Saint-Germain, who knocked the Reds out in the Champions League round of 16.

PSG clinched the win on penalties after two fiercely contested legs. After eliminating Liverpool, the Parisians went on to face Aston Villa in the quarter-finals, then Arsenal in the semi-finals.

In an interview with L’Équipe – the full version will be published on Saturday – Salah revealed:

"To be honest, Paris played an exceptional first leg. We were very lucky, Alisson probably delivered his best performance for us. On their side, they just lacked the finishing touch."

He continued: "In the return leg at Anfield, we were the unlucky ones. We hit the woodwork two or three times, they cleared several balls off the line. I think neither team truly had luck on their side."

Salah also made a point of showing sportsmanship towards his opponents: "I congratulated the PSG players. I told them: Well done… now go and win the title! And that was it."

For him, the elimination came down to fine margins: "It was 50-50. They were better in the first leg, we dominated the second, but penalties made the difference."

Salah: "We faced the best team in Europe"!

Finally, the Egyptian revisited Liverpool's fluctuating form: "We were at our peak this season, but in March, our performance dropped. We faced a team at their best, while our momentum started to fade."

Salah concluded: "Getting knocked out of the Champions League coincided with the League Cup final against Newcastle, which added even more pressure. The schedule didn't help us—everything happened at the wrong time."
