Jermaine Seoposenwe: end of the road with the national team after AFCON 2025

A major chapter is about to close for South African women's football. Jermaine Seoposenwe, a key striker for Banyana Banyana, has announced she will retire from international football after the next Women's Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for July 2025 in Morocco.

This is a well-considered decision, symbolically revealed on June 16, South Africa's Youth Day. At 31, the Rayadas Monterrey (Mexico) forward feels the time is right. “My heart tells me this is the right moment,” she wrote in a heartfelt farewell message.

Over 100 caps, a continental title in 2022, and fierce battles fought both on and off the pitch. Seoposenwe has embodied determination, resilience, and the fulfillment of a dream. Once a passionate young girl, she has become a role model for perseverance. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy. “I gave it my all. My heart, my soul. But it’s time to pass the torch.”

Her last challenge in the national jersey will be AFCON Morocco 2025. One final battle before she closes the book for good.
