Real Madrid had to wait until the final seconds to overcome Elche. After leading 2-0 at half-time, Los Merengues saw their opponents draw level after the 83rd minute. Carlos Espi, from a pass by Kylian Mbappé, ultimately secured all three points for the Madrid side in stoppage time.

A team that still does not know how to close out matches

After the match, José Mourinho mainly regretted the way his team had lost control of the game. For the Portuguese coach, the problem arises when Real Madrid think they have done the hardest part.

According to Marca, Mourinho believes that matches which appear almost won are not controlled well enough until the end. He had already seen a similar situation against Espanyol, when his team also had to wait until the end of the match to secure victory.

Mourinho wants greater control

The Madrid coach appreciates his team's attacking efficiency, but is calling for greater control. He believes it is normal to concede a goal occasionally, but much less so to allow the opponent to create several dangerous chances after dominating the match.

The victory over Elche therefore allows Real Madrid to remain in touch with FC Barcelona in La Liga, but Mourinho knows that their performance will have to improve to avoid further scares.
