Joseph Ceesay close to a transfer to Empoli

Joseph Ceesay is set to make his return to Italy. According to our sources, Malmö FF has reached an agreement with Empoli for the permanent transfer of its 27-year-old Gambian full-back.

After an impressive loan spell at Cesena (4 assists in 28 Serie B matches), Joseph Ceesay briefly rejoined Malmö's squad. But his future now appears to lie on the other side of the Alps. Empoli, relegated to Italy's second division last spring, has set its sights on the Swedish international of Gambian descent to strengthen its defense.

The player is expected in Italy shortly to undergo his medical. This transfer would mark a new chapter in Ceesay's career, already well accustomed to the rigors of Italian football.
