Junior Mendes heads to Portugal

After his spell at Guingamp, Junior Mendes is preparing to take on a new challenge in Portugal's top flight.

The Spanish-Senegalese left winger has officially signed with FC Alverca, newly promoted to Liga Portugal (D1). The announcement was made this weekend on the club's Twitter account. At 23 years old, Junior Mendes shared his first impressions on Alverca's official website:

This is recognition for my hard work and dedication. It is a tremendous honor to represent this club in such a competitive league as the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

Trained in Spain, with a brief stint in England, and having made a name for himself in Ligue 2 with Guingamp, Junior Mendes hopes to take another step forward in Portugal. His speed and ability to break down the left flank impressed the Alverca management, who are counting on him to energize their attacking play this season.
