Kwesi Appiah: Sudan's head coach boycotts preparatory camp

The head coach of Sudan, Kwesi Appiah, is boycotting the Falcons' preparatory camp in Saudi Arabia in protest over unpaid salaries. This crisis comes at a very inopportune time, just days before the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Kwesi Appiah, leading the Falcons of Jediane, has decided not to participate in the 12-day training camp scheduled in Saudi Arabia. This decision follows unpaid salary arrears by the Sudanese Football Federation. Despite discussions with the Federation's Vice President, Osama Atta Al-Mannan, no solution was found, prompting the coach to take this action.

A Crisis That Could Cost Sudan Dearly in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

This situation arises at a critical moment. Sudan is set to face Senegal on March 21, 2025, in Libya, followed by a match against South Sudan on March 25, as part of the 5th and 6th rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This 12-day preparatory camp in Saudi Arabia, including two friendly matches against Jordan, was planned to refine strategies and strengthen team cohesion.

Kwesi Appiah's decision seriously jeopardizes these preparations and could affect the Falcons of Jediane's performances in these crucial fixtures. The Sudanese Football Federation is now under pressure to quickly resolve this financial dispute. It should be noted that the Ghanaian coach has already proven his worth by successfully qualifying Sudan for the CAN Morocco 2025, scheduled for next December.
