Sad news for the football world. Joey Jones, the iconic former Liverpool defender, has passed away at the age of 70, the club announced this Tuesday.

The first Welshman to lift the European Cup in 1977 with the Reds, Jones left an indelible mark on the club's history during the 1970s with two continental triumphs. "Liverpool's thoughts are with Joey's family and loved ones," the club said in a statement.

A Welsh international with 72 caps, Jones also wore the shirts of Wrexham (which he joined three times), Chelsea, and Huddersfield during his career. His name remains etched in the memories of Welsh fans and Liverpool supporters alike, celebrated for his commitment, charisma, and exploits on the European stage.
