According to Daily Mail journalist Chris Wheeler, a permanent appointment is now looking increasingly likely, given the remarkable impact the former midfielder has had on the United squad. The numbers speak for themselves: just one defeat in ten matches, and United are on the verge of Champions League qualification.

The final decision rests with CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox, who will make their call at the end of the season. But with Champions League qualification within reach, Carrick appears to have already done most of the work needed to convince the board.
