Mohamed Salah speaks about their ambition for the World Cup!
With just over a week remaining until the World Cup kicks off on June 11, Egypt is busy making its final preparations for what will be the nation’s fourth appearance on football’s grandest stage. The Pharaohs find themselves in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran—but for star forward Mohamed Salah, simply participating isn't enough.
Speaking recently in comments picked up by Btolat, the Liverpool icon made it clear that Egypt has its sights set on history. "Our ambition at this World Cup is to push further than this country has ever gone before in the tournament," Salah said.
While Egypt has long been a powerhouse in African football, that dominance has never fully translated to global success. The team's current best showing at a World Cup remains a round-of-16 finish back in 1934, when the tournament was hosted in Italy. That’s a stat Salah—alongside fellow attackers Omar Marmoush and Mahmoud Trezeguet—is desperate to rewrite.
As the countdown to the opening whistle continues, the message from Egypt’s camp is clear: they aren't just here to make up the numbers. With a blend of experienced stars and emerging talent, the Pharaohs believe they can finally break new ground on the world stage when the action gets underway in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
