Moviola: What could the "violent" referee from the Al Ahly vs Al Hilal match face?
Al Ahly vs Al Hilal/@eremnews

The Chadian referee Al Hadj Aliou Mahamat made an inappropriate gesture during the match between the Egyptian club Al Ahly and their Sudanese counterpart Al Hilal, in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

Frustrated by the protests of Egyptian full-back Mohamed Hany, he did not hesitate to give him a rather violent shove.

This behavior was deemed irresponsible by our expert Moviola Amine Barkallah, who responded to the following question: Could Al Hadj Aliou Mahamat face a sanction from the CAF?

The main directive given to referees is to avoid any physical contact with players and not to enforce the law aggressively. Al Hadj Aliou Mahamat could have sanctioned Mohamed Hany administratively by issuing a yellow card, but to go as far as pushing him disrespectfully is a bit excessive. I don't think the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will let this incident go unnoticed and could sanction the Chadian referee, especially since the Egyptian club has a real media machine.

Al Ahly to file a complaint against Al Hadj Aliou Mahamat

The winner of the last edition of the Champions League plans to file a complaint against the Chadian referee with the governing body of African football.

In addition to his aggressive behavior with Mohamed Hany, he is accused of disadvantaging the Cairo club with his decisions deemed unwise.
