Kaizer Chiefs season hit new low on Saturday as they slumped to 2 - 1 defeat against Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby, their 12th league loss of the campaign.

Despite promising start with Glody Lilepo scoring in the 3rd minute, Amakhosi let the lead slip with goals from Evidence Makgopa & Relebohile Mofokeng sealing victory for the Buccaneers at FNB Stadium.

Tense Nabi clashes with journalists after loss

Post match, coach Nasreddine Nabi was visibly furious during the press conference especially when asked whether he deserved to keep his job. β€œDon’t provoke me” he warned sharply insisting that this season was always meant to be transitional. β€œI came here for the process. You don’t evaluate me based on immediate results” he said, refusing to accept blame for short term setbacks.

Top 8 finish slipping away

Chiefs remain ninth on the Betway Premiership log, level on 30 point with 8th placed Chippa United who have game in hand.

Failure to make the Top 8 for second straight season would be historic low adding to pressure on Nabi and the club's management.

Nedbank Cup final now make or break

The Tunisian tactician now faces must win situation in the Nedbank cup final against the same Pirates side on May 10.

Victory could be the only way to salvage Chiefs season and possibly Nabi’s future at the club.
