Official: Patrice Motsepe re-elected as CAF president!
The extraordinary general assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), held today, Wednesday, in Cairo, the Egyptian capital, has reappointed South African Patrice Motsepe as the head of CAF for a new term.
Motsepe to lead CAF until 2029
Motsepe, the sole candidate in the elections and strongly backed by FIFA president Gianni Infantino, has secured approval for a new four-year term, which will last until 2029.
The extraordinary general assembly of CAF held today enabled the election of the president, the executive committee members, and CAF's representatives to FIFA.
Patrice Motsepe, aged 63, expressed his gratitude after earning the general assembly's trust: βThank you, it is a great honor for me to work with you, as you represent the continent's interests.β
Additionally, Egyptian Hani Abou Rida has been elected president of the North African Football Union, according to a statement on the Union's official website.
The statement read: "On Tuesday, an elective general assembly of the North African Football Union was held in Cairo, during which Hani Abou Rida, president of the Egyptian Football Federation, was elected president of the North African Union."
