Official: RC Lens confirms the departure of Nampalys Mendy

It's over between young Senegalese international Nampalys Mendy and the French club, RC Lens.

RC Lens has turned the page on Nampalys Mendy. The decision came down this Thursday, June 26, 2025. It's hardly a surprise, as the Senegalese midfielder's contract was set to expire.

Having joined on a free transfer from Leicester in September 2023, Nampalys Mendy has never caused any problems. He has always delivered when called upon, whether by Franck Haise or Will Still. Despite his reliability, RC Lens opted not to offer him an extension, not even for a single season. This decision, given the current squad's rebuilding phase, could well be one the club regrets.

Now a free agent as of Thursday, Mendy is attracting plenty of interest. According to various rumors, Wydad Casablanca in Morocco, as well as several MLS and Middle Eastern clubs, have already made their interest known. At 32, the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations champion surely has plenty left to offer.
