OM: the real reason behind De Zerbi's dismissal
Olympique de Marseille made a decisive move overnight: Roberto De Zerbi is no longer the club’s head coach. After a crushing 5-0 defeat to PSG and a frustrating exit from the Champions League, the Marseille board officially announced the split at 2:35 a.m., stating it was reached “by mutual agreement,” according to an official club statement.

In the statement, OM describes “a collective, difficult decision, made after thorough reflection in the club’s best interest” in order to address “the sporting challenges at this stage of the season.” The split came suddenly, but had seemed inevitable after several weeks of internal tension.
As reported by La Provence, several factors accelerated the end of De Zerbi’s tenure: constant tactical changes, lack of stability in lineups, inflexibility in his choices, and a strained relationship with certain players, notably in how he handled Amir Murillo and Neal Maupay. Marseille is closing a major chapter—at the worst possible moment of their season.
