King's Cup: Spain announces postponement of all matches (Official)
On Wednesday, the Spanish Football Federation announced the postponement of all matches scheduled in its national competitions. This decision was made because of the terrible rail accident that occurred in the province of Toledo.
Officially, the 24 first-round matches of the Copa del Rey, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon and evening, are affected by the decision. The RFEF said it wanted to show its solidarity with the victims and their loved ones, as Spain has been struck by a major tragedy. For now, the new dates and kick-off times for the matches are not known. They will be announced at a later date.
Spain mourns its victims
The rail accident occurred on Wednesday morning near Urda, in Castile-La Mancha, where two high-speed trains—an AVE operated by Renfe and a train belonging to Iryo—collided. The provisional toll stands at at least 30 dead and numerous injured, while emergency services continued their operations.
Initial leads point to possible human error after one of the trains stopped on the track. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona issued statements to honor the memory of the victims.
