Brilliance of the Nigerian Eagle.. Ehizibue opens his Genoa account against Juventus
Dutch-Nigerian defender Kingsley Ehizibue scored the opening goal for Genoa against Juventus on Wednesday 28 October putting the hosts ahead in their Serie A Matchday 9 encounter at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
The 31 year old right back broke the deadlock in the 12th minute producing an important attacking contribution on his return to the starting lineup following a recent muscular injury.
Ehizibue finished a well constructed Genoa move to beat Juventus goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
How Kingsley Ehizibue scored against Juventus
The goal originated from an attacking move down Genoa's left flank.
Mikael Ellertsson combined with Tommaso Baldanzi who delivered a low cross towards the far post.
Ehizibue arrived to meet the delivery and struck towards the near post, with the ball taking a deflection off Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso before beating Vicario.
The goal gave Daniele De Rossi's side an early advantage against a Juventus team managed by Luciano Spalletti.
Genoa subsequently doubled their lead in the 28th minute through Baldanzi who capitalised on a defensive mistake involving Pierre Kalulu.
Ehizibue's opening strike was particularly significant given that Juventus had kept clean sheets in their previous four meetings with Genoa.
Ehizibue makes an immediate impact after injury
Wednesday's goal marked an encouraging return for Ehizibue who had missed Genoa's previous two fixtures due to a thigh problem.
The defender returned to full training before the Juventus encounter and was immediately restored to De Rossi's starting eleven.
Ehizibue joined Genoa on a free transfer in September 2026 after leaving Udinese, as reflected in Foot Africa's Serie A transfer records.
Born in Munich, Germany, the defender holds Dutch and Nigerian nationality and previously represented the Netherlands at U21 level.
His Nigerian heritage makes his contribution another notable moment involving a player with African roots in European football.
Genoa seek vital points against Juventus
Genoa entered Wednesday's match in 16th place in the Italian top flight having collected 7 points from their opening 8 fixtures.
However, De Rossi's team had shown signs of improvement winning their previous two home matches against Fiorentina & Venezia.
Juventus, meanwhile, arrived in seventh place with 14 point after securing a 2-0 victory over Lecce in their previous league outing.
Ehizibue's early goal strengthened Genoa's hopes of extending their positive home form and securing an important result against one of Italy's most successful clubs.
