Real Madrid: Kylian Mbappé shirts burned in China

Since Tuesday, the controversy surrounding Kylian Mbappé has continued to provoke hostile reactions in China.

In recent hours, videos shared on social media have shown several supporters burning shirts of the Real Madrid forward and destroying posters bearing his image. The footage reflects the anger of part of the Chinese public following Kylian Mbappé’s comments about a humorous image depicting him with the body of Mao Zedong.

Hours after the controversy intensified, Kylian Mbappé apologized to all of China. Despite the player’s public apology and Real Madrid’s statement expressing its own regret to the Chinese people, the situation remains tense. The termination of several commercial partnerships and criticism echoed by local media have already damaged the Frenchman’s image in the Chinese market.
