Only one African in the most expensive XI of the 2025 Club World Cup

Only one African player features in the most expensive starting eleven of the 2025 Club World Cup, according to the specialist site Transfermarkt.

That player is Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi, whose market value has skyrocketed recently to reach a staggering 80 million euros.

This elite line-up of the tournament's most valuable players also includes others of African descent, such as forwards Kylian Mbappé and Michael Olise, both of whom have Algerian roots in addition to Cameroonian and Nigerian heritage.

Achraf Hakimi's outstanding season

The Atlas Lion was simply sensational for his club Paris Saint-Germain in the 2024-2025 season. Across 49 appearances in all competitions, he netted 9 goals and delivered 14 assists.
