Premier League: Roberto De Zerbi provides update on Mohammed Kudus after his return

Mohammed Kudus is continuing his return to competitive action with Tottenham. Coming off the bench in Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Everton, the Ghanaian international played 27 minutes and is edging closer to a return to the starting XI.

Roberto De Zerbi was optimistic about his player’s physical condition.

“I think we are very close to being ready to start the game,” the Tottenham manager said after the match, suggesting that Kudus could soon make his first start.

The Italian coach knows the 26-year-old particularly well. During his time at Brighton, De Zerbi tried to sign Kudus before the midfielder joined West Ham.

“I wanted Mo Kudus when I was at Brighton. I pushed a lot to sign him before he joined West Ham,” he recalled.

Against Everton, Kudus had 27 touches, created one key chance and won four duels during his 27 minutes on the pitch. His playing time remains limited, but the appearance gives him another opportunity to regain his rhythm.

De Zerbi also values his ability to operate in several positions.

“He can play as a winger, as a No. 10 and as a striker, and he is an amazing player,” the Spurs boss said.

Kudus’ return comes as Tottenham continue to struggle in attack. After four Premier League games, Spurs have yet to score a single goal, with two draws and two defeats. In that context, the Ghanaian’s gradual return could quickly become increasingly important for De Zerbi.
