Rafinha Bids Farewell: Bayern Munich Legend Announces Retirement
Former Bayern Munich & Schalke defender Rafinha's officially retired from professional football at the age of 39 bringing end to career filled with silverware & iconic moments.
Emotional Goodbye
In heartfelt message on his Instagram account, the Brazilian wrote:
"Today the final whistle's blown on my career. It’s time to say goodbye with peaceful heart & immense gratitude"
He thanked Schalke for believing in him as young talent from Brazil and paid tribute to Bayern calling it "my home where I achieved everything in football"
Trophy Laden Spell in Germany
Rafinha joined Schalke in 2005 spending 5 season before signing with Bayern Munich in 2010 where he remained until 2019. During his time in Bavaria, he won:
- 7 Bundesliga title
- 4 DFB Pokal cup
- 1 Champions league (2013 treble season)
Return to Brazil
After leaving Bayern Rafinha returned to Brazil and featured for Flamengo, Gremio, Sao Paulo and most recently, Coritiba.
