Real Madrid: Luka Modric's overwhelming emotions after his final match
Luka Modric

The most decorated player in Real Madrid's history, Luka Modric is leaving Los Blancos this summer after the humiliation suffered against PSG in the Club World Cup semi-final. In an exclusive interview, the Croatian midfielder let his emotions flow.

Arriving at Real Madrid in 2012 from Tottenham, Luka Modric leaves the Madrid club after playing 597 matches. The 2018 Ballon d'Or winner spoke in a lengthy interview for Real Madrid's TV channel.

For the 39-year-old, it was a great privilege to wear the Real Madrid shirt. "It was a long journey, but an unforgettable one. I've grown a lot both as a player and as a person. I have a second home, because Madrid and Spain are like a second home to me. I'm very happy and I'm sure that, with time, I'll become even more aware of what I've achieved, because I'll need time to process all the emotions and everything I've accomplished here." he revealed.

Before officially signing with AC Milan in the coming days, Modric reflected on his achievements and legacy with Real Madrid. "My statistics make me happy and proud of what I've accomplished here. To be the player with the most titles at the greatest club in football history is incredible. But that's not all. There are also other things, like the affection of the fans. I always remember that, because it's something no one can take away from you. You can't fool people, and they won't love you just because you play for Real Madrid—but the affection they've shown me is unbelievable. I never could have imagined that." he added.
