These statements, claiming that Moroccan right-back Achraf Hakimi is just an “ordinary player” and that the media has exaggerated his talent, even went so far as to deny that he deserves the Ballon d’Or.

These remarks triggered a wave of outrage, seen as an unjustified belittling of one of Morocco’s top stars and one of the best full-backs in world football.

Sami Trabelsi categorically denies the false accusations against Hakimi

However, Sami Trabelsi quickly refuted these false claims. In an interview with the Qatari website "Winwin," he categorically denied ever making such remarks and clarified that these rumors are completely baseless.

He stated: “Achraf Hakimi is a great player who makes Moroccan and Arab football proud. I could never speak ill of him. May God forgive those who invented these lies.”

He concluded: “If it were up to me, I would award him the Ballon d'Or, not out of compassion, but because he fully deserves it thanks to his performances with the national team and Paris Saint-Germain.”
