Senegal: Mory Diaw takes responsibility for his mistakes and apologizes
The day after Senegal's elimination in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup against Belgium (3-2), Mory Diaw broke his silence. The Lions of Teranga goalkeeper posted an emotional message on his social networks, in which he accepted responsibility and apologized to the supporters.
"A childhood dream… To wear Senegal's colors at a World Cup. I never imagined it would end with such emptiness," wrote the 33-year-old shot-stopper.
The goalkeeper specifically acknowledged his mistake on Belgium's second goal, when a failed aerial intervention allowed Youri Tielemans to equalize with a header.
"I don't need to watch the footage to know that I bear my share of responsibility. As a goalkeeper, one single action can erase everything that came before," he admitted.
This mea culpa comes as his performance has reignited debate about his status as backup within the Senegalese squad.
