Thapelo Maseko breaks silence on Copenhagen move
Interview
Bafana Bafana attacker Thapelo Maseko has opened up on his high-profile move to Danish Superliga giants FC Copenhagen from African champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 22-year-old explosive winger put pen to paper on a four-year deal in a transfer worth in the region of € 1, 500 000 (R28 million), ending a three-year association with the Brazilians.
He was reportedly unsettled at Chloorkop after being deemed surplus to requirements, leading to a loan spell with Cypriot outfit AEL Limassol in the second round of the 2025/26 campaign.
Maseko is now set for a new chapter in the Danish capital, where South African football legend Sibusiso Zuma emerged as a fan favourite, having played for FC Copenhagen between 1999 and 2005.
“I am very proud of this agreement. It is a dream come true. To me, FC Copenhagen are a very special club,” the Bafana international told FC Copenhagen media.
"They are a club that is highly recognized internationally and Zuma has told me so many great things about the club, the fans, and the city. I am looking forward to experiencing it all myself.
The SuperSport United academy graduate, who scored for Bafana Bafana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is eager to hit the ground running in Denmark, and has set sights on a trophy-laden stay.
“I am truly honoured to get this opportunity, and it fills me with hunger and ambition. I have come here to make a difference and leave my mark on the club,” Maseko added.
"I have big ambitions for the club and on a personal level. I come here to win, and I am very excited to get out on the pitch and give everything I've got.
FC Copenhagen, meanwhile, swing back to action with a UEFA Conference League qualification round clash against FC Inter Turku of Finland on Thursday evening.
