Transfer market: Manchester United confident in signing Mbeumo
Bryan Mbeumo, currently at Brentford, finds himself at the center of a transfer battle between Manchester United and Tottenham. Both clubs are pushing hard to secure the player's signature, but the Cameroonian international appears to be leaning towards the Red Devils in this saga.
After a sensational season in the Premier League—netting 20 goals and providing 7 assists in 38 matches with the Bees—the 25-year-old Cameroonian striker is set for a change of scenery this summer. Two clubs have shown serious interest in the sharpshooter: Manchester United and Tottenham. Both English outfits have already submitted their respective offers.
Tottenham uncertain despite tempting offer
As revealed a few days ago, the Spurs are ready to break the bank with a transfer fee for Mbeumo close to €83 million, bonuses included—outbidding the Red Devils' proposal. Tottenham have also highlighted other incentives, including the prospect of playing European football and the strong relationship between Franck Thomas, Spurs' new head coach, and the player. All signs would seem to point towards Tottenham as the ideal destination, but British media suggest otherwise.
In fact, local media report that the player has eyes only for Manchester United and has made this explicitly clear to his club. Moreover, Cameroonian international goalkeeper André Onana has advised his compatriot to choose United, according to the same sources. This has given the Manchester camp further confidence that they will secure his signature in the coming days.
While transfer rumors continue to swirl, Bryan Mbeumo is keeping his cards close to his chest. When asked about his future, the Cameroonian simply commented on what it feels like to be targeted by such Premier League giants. "It's something new for me, I'd say! I think it's part of a footballer's life and you have to accept it," he stated.
