Algeria is still reeling from the decision of young star Omar Rafik to change his sporting nationality from Algerian to Qatari.

This initiative by the young player has sent shockwaves through Algerian football, especially since he was trained by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) academy before joining Paradou AC.

Many voices in the North African country have called for a ban on young talents from moving to the Qatari league, fearing they might also undergo naturalization processes.

It is not out of the question that the Algerian football governing body might take such a decision to counter the new strategy adopted by the Middle Eastern emirate's sports authorities.

Omar Rafik's record in Qatar?

At 21, the diminutive winger signed with Al-Shamal SC during the transfer window of 2023 for a sum of 500,000 euros.

In the current season, he has participated in 22 matches across all competitions, tallying 6 goals and 3 assists.
