Tunisia Pushes for U-20 AFCON Spot After Ivory Coast’s Withdrawal
The Tunisian Football Federation's formally requested place in the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations after Ivory Coast withdrew from the competition according to media reports in Tunisia.
Local radio station Mosaïque FM reported that the federation submitted official request to the confederation of african football CAF, hoping to secure spot in the tournament following the latest developments.
Tunisia Claims Regional Right to Participation
Ivory Coast’s decision to step away from hosting the tournament led to CAF awarding the hosting rights to Egypt. Tunisia's now arguing that North Africa, as the hosting region, should be granted 3 slot in the competition.
In the qualification tournament, Tunisia finished 3rd behind Morocco (group winners) & Egypt (runners up) who are now the tournament hosts. With Egypt no longer needing qualifying spot, Tunisia's seeking to take its place.
U-20 AFCON & World Cup Qualification
The 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to run from 26 April to 18 May. The top four teams from the tournament will earn qualification for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, set to take place in the fall.
Will CAF approve Tunisia’s request and grant them place in the competition? The decision could shape the tournament lineup in the coming weeks.
