Portuguese police are searching for man who set fire to Cristiano Ronaldo’s statue in Madeira and shared the act online.

Shocking Incident at Ronaldo’s Hometown

Authorities in Portugal have launched investigation after vandal set fire to statue of Cristiano Ronaldo on the island of Madeira, the birthplace of the Al Nassr captain.

The incident drew widespread attention after the suspect posted footage of his actions on social media.

According to a report by Daily Mail, the individual filmed himself pouring flammable liquid over the bronze statue of the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus star before igniting it.

The act took place at night and was accompanied by loud music played through portable speaker.

Video Sparks Outrage on Social Media

The footage, later shared on Instagram showed the man dancing erratically to rap music as flames briefly engulfed the statue. He described himself online as “freestyle” artist & “local man”.

Despite the dramatic images early reports suggest the fire burned out quickly. It remains unclear whether the statue suffered any permanent damage although officials are continuing inspections.

The statue had previously been moved from another location on the island in March 2016 following earlier act of vandalism linked to rival fan reactions.

Police Identify the Suspect

Portuguese police confirmed that they have identified the individual responsible but he has not yet been arrested. Officers are continuing efforts to locate him.

Many supporters of Ronaldo as well as public figures expressed their anger online condemning the act as disrespectful to both the football icon and the island that celebrates his legacy.
