Bernabeu vs Hassan II Stadium: Spain and Morocco’s fierce battle to host the 2030 World Cup Final

The Royal Spanish Football Federation RFEF intends to put forward Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu as the official venue for the 2030 World Cup final setting up a direct competition with Morocco's planned Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca.

Spain's 11 stadium bid

According to Spanish radio network Cadena SER, the RFEF has finalized a list of 11 Spanish stadiums to host matches during the global tournament which will be co hosted alongside Portugal and Morocco.

The federation reportedly rejected proposed venues in Malaga (La Rosaleda) and A Coruna (Riazor) to reach their final selection.

Spain's ultimate goal remains securing the prestigious final on 21 July 2030. While acknowledging logistical challenges, Cadena SER reported:

"There are doubts about the possibility of holding events in the area surrounding the Real Madrid stadium but despite this, it remains the strongest candidate to host the matches"

Camp Nou set for maximum fixtures

While Madrid pushes for the final, the RFEF intends to grant FC Barcelona's Camp Nou the highest overall number of World Cup matches.

The Catalan stadium is currently undergoing extensive renovations. As highlighted by the Spanish broadcaster, by the time the tournament kicks off in June 2030, Camp Nou will be the largest stadium on the Iberian Peninsula boasting a capacity of approximately 105,000 spectators.

The final venue battle

The competition to host the 2030 World Cup final is intensifying into a major sporting and diplomatic contest. While Spain national team relies on the historical prestige and recent modernizations of the Santiago Bernabeu & Camp Nou, Morocco is aggressively pushing the Grand Stade Hassan II.

The planned Moroccan mega stadium in Casablanca is designed to accommodate up to 115,000 fans ensuring it meets all modern requirements for major events. If successful, Casablanca would host only the second World Cup final ever held on the African continent, presenting a highly compelling narrative for the voters.

What happens next?

FIFA holds the ultimate authority over the match schedule and venue allocation. The global governing body will conduct rigorous evaluations of all proposed stadiums assessing infrastructure, commercial viability and logistical accessibility.

A final decision on whether Madrid or Casablanca will host the showpiece event is expected after the joint bid's official presentation and subsequent FIFA evaluations.
