Taiwo Awoniyi’s return to Nottingham Forest’s starting lineup was short lived, as the super eagles striker missed Saturday’s 2 - 1 defeat against Aston Villa due to hamstring injury.

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed that Awoniyi sustained the knock during Forest’s 1 -0 win over Man United where he featured for 85 minutes. Initially deemed precautionary, the injury's now ruled him out indefinitely.

Nuno: “We missed our reference players”

Speaking after the Villa defeat Nuno expressed frustration over the absence of both Awoniyi & Chris Wood.

“We missed Chris and we missed T. The way we play needs reference player up front” he said.

Forest, short on attacking options, struggled in the 1st half as goals from Donyell Malen & Morgan Rogers put Villa in control. Jota Silva’s 2nd half strike wasn't enough to spark comeback.

Forest Eyeing Reinforcements

According to TBR Football, Forest're monitoring Bournemouth striker Evanilson & Wolves forward Matheus Cunha as potential replacements amid speculation that Awoniyi could depart this summer.

The 27 year old has endured tough 2024 /25 season making just 3 league starts & scoring twice in 28 appearances.
