The Carthage Eagles will face off against Liberia and Malawi in the 5th and 6th rounds of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
This new squad list for Tunisia has raised several questions due to various inconsistencies.
A goalkeeper at the end of his career
The former Al-Sailiya Sports Club coach has called up Abdessalem Hallaoui, a 35-year-old goalkeeper playing for US Monastir.
A rather odd choice considering that different coaches usually prefer to select a young player for the position of third goalkeeper.

The absence of Belhadj Mahmoud
Having delivered outstanding performances with FC Lugano, the 24-year-old midfielder has been one of the standout players in the current Swiss Super League edition.
An unjustified absence, especially since the player is on the radar of clubs playing in the top five European leagues.

The return of the undesirables
The return of Ferjani Sassi and Naïm Sliti has not been welcomed by the majority of Tunisian fans.
Both players have lost much of their shine and still seem far from their peak form.
