Pape Thiaw, the coach of Senegal, is working behind the scenes to attract a young Belgian prospect to the Lions for the upcoming international fixtures.

As the qualifications for the 2026 World Cup resume this month, with matches against Sudan and Togo, the Den's boss is eager to strengthen his squad with Ilay Camara, the talented right-back from Standard Liège.

According to Match360TV, as reported by Walfoot.be, the 44-year-old Senegalese coach has already spoken with the player of Senegalese descent, who played with the Belgian U15 and U16 teams and was recently called up to the U21 squad, but did not take the field.

A decision of the heart

At 22 years old, Camara has not yet been called up to Belgium's senior team. Aware of Senegal's interest and the anticipation surrounding his decision, the young player keeps the suspense:

My mother is Belgian, my father is Senegalese, so it's a decision of the heart. I'll make my decision when the time is right, based on my feelings.

On loan from RWD Molenbeek, Ilay Camara is establishing himself as an undisputed starter at Standard this season, with 25 games and 6 assists.
