During the 2022 edition, Wydad were held to a draw by Saudi club Al Hilal and lost 5-3 on penalties after the match ended 1-1. They finished 5th in the tournament after FIFA cancelled the classification match against Seattle Sounders from the United States.
Drawn into Group G, Al Wydad will face Manchester City (England), Al-Ain FC (United Arab Emirates), and Juventus FC (Italy).
