Ziyech set to miss March gathering?
Hakim Ziyech, captain of the Moroccan national team and player for Al-Duhail in Qatar, is likely to miss the Atlas Lions' March gathering. During this training camp, Walid Regragui's team will face Niger and Tanzania as part of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
According to information obtained by the Moroccan newspaper Al-Mountakhab, coach Walid Regragui is not expected to call up Hakim Ziyech for this preparatory stage.
This decision is due to the fact that the "magician" has not yet regained his usual form, in addition to his limited playing time since joining his new club. He has played only four matches without making an impact, having contributed to no goals.
The Atlas Lions one step away from the World Cup
Furthermore, Group E, to which the Moroccan team belongs, has experienced a major shake-up following FIFA's decision to suspend the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT), resulting in the cancellation of all its team's results in these World Cup qualifiers.
Now, the Atlas Lions are one step away from qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. A victory in the next two matches against Niger and Tanzania would be enough to secure their place and make Morocco the first African country to qualify for the World Cup.
