The second round of the group stage in the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations proved decisive, with results revealed on Thursday. Morocco keeps up its winning streak, Senegal bounces back, and Algeria slips. As these two matches conclude, the battle for qualification intensifies ahead of a thrilling final matchday.

Senegal 1-0 Kenya: The Lionesses of Teranga roar back into contention

At the Rabat Olympic Stadium, Senegal picked up their first three points. Senabu Mbengue, after a pinpoint assist from Ndi Awa Kassy, secured the victory for the Lionesses of Teranga. The first-half goal proved enough. Senegal's defense held firm, and Mam Moussa Cissé’s players managed the second half smartly to re-enter the qualification race after a 2-0 defeat to Algeria.

Kenya, who lost 4-0 to Morocco and then 1-0, now stand on the brink of elimination from the tournament. They must beat Algeria by a wide margin to keep their hopes alive.

Morocco 1-0 Algeria: Masoudi seals quarter-final berth for the Atlas Lionesses

Morocco clinched their second win against their neighbors Algeria. A lone strike from Sanaa Masoudi in the 84th minute, following an assist from Hanan Ait El Haj, was enough to send the home crowd into celebration. The Moroccan side now tops the group and has secured a quarter-final ticket, guaranteeing at least a place in the 2027 World Cup qualifying play-offs.

Algeria, who suffered defeat after their 2-0 win over Senegal, remain on 3 points and will contend for a quarter-final spot against Kenya in the final group match.

Group A standings after two rounds

  1. Morocco 6 points, +5
  2. Algeria 3 points, 0
  3. Senegal 3 points, -1
  4. Kenya 0 points, -4

The next round is scheduled for August 3. Algeria face Kenya, while Morocco wrap up against Senegal. The final two quarter-final tickets will be decided in this round, with goal difference possibly being the tie-breaker.
