2026 World Cup: FIFA set to pocket $5 billion
For FIFA, the 2026 World Cup is an exceptional financial operation.
According to information revealed by The Times in recent hours, the revenue generated by ticket sales and hospitality services during the 2026 World Cup is expected to exceed $5 billion (approximately €4.5 billion). This figure is more than five times higher than the $929 million generated during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and well above the governing body's initial projections of $3.3 billion.
An increase thanks to 48 teams
It should be noted that this increase is explained by the expansion of the competition to 48 teams and 104 matches, compared with 32 teams and 64 matches in 2022. This is compounded by a particularly high pricing policy.
Although FIFA has not officially confirmed the $5 billion figure, it says that the revenue generated will make it possible to increase aid for its 211 member associations. The governing body thus intends to highlight the competition's benefits for the development of global football, as this North American edition marks a new economic milestone for the tournament.
