Adel Amrouche appointed as Rwanda's new head coach (Official)

After more than a year without a position, Adel Amrouche is back on the sidelines. The Algerian coach has been officially appointed as the head coach of the Rwanda national team.

Free from any commitment since January 2024, after being dismissed from his position leading Tanzania during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Amrouche will now lead the “Amavubi”. The Rwandan Football Federation (Ferwafa) officially announced his arrival this Monday, March 3.

He will be assisted by Eric Nshimiyimana, a former Rwandan international (4 caps) and current coach of AS Kigali, as well as Carolin Braun, a Swiss technician appointed as the second assistant.

A two-year contract for a major challenge

According to DZfoot, the Algerian has signed a two-year deal with an option for an additional year. His mission will be to lead Rwanda to the 2026 World Cup, as the team will not be competing in the 2025 AFCON.

The Rwandans are well-positioned in their qualifying group, sitting at the top of Group C, level on points with South Africa and Benin.

A comeback after a controversial suspension

Dismissed after criticizing the Moroccan Football Federation and its president Fouzi Lekjaa, Amrouche was handed an eight-match suspension and a $10,000 fine. He appealed to the CAS, which eventually overturned these sanctions.

His debut with the world's 124th-ranked team is anticipated in upcoming matches against Nigeria and Lesotho.
