Real Madrid have abandoned their pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Rodri, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Spanish giants no longer plan to sign the 29‑year‑old, citing difficult negotiations with City and the likely arrival of Bernardo Silva as key factors.

Earlier, club president Florentino Pérez had identified Rodri as Madrid’s primary summer target, but Los Blancos have now shifted their focus to alternative market plans.

Rodri has managed only 33 appearances for City this season, plagued by frequent and serious injuries. He remains under contract until 2027 and is valued at €50 million by Transfermarkt.

Madrid’s change of heart signals a strategic pivot. With Silva potentially on his way and Rodri’s injury history a concern, the club have opted against pursuing a player they once viewed as essential. The summer window is still young, but one of its projected headline moves will no longer take place. Rodri’s future now remains with City — at least for the foreseeable future.
