Al Ahly: the José Gomes option becomes clearer


The Egyptian club Al Ahly continues to explore several coaching options in search of the perfect candidate.

Since the dismissal of Swiss coach Marcel Koller, the record-holding African champions have entered talks with a number of world-renowned managers, including Germany’s Marco Rose.
According to the latest reports, the Cairo-based club now favors Portuguese tactician José Gomes, currently in charge of Saudi side Al-Fateh.

According to Ahmed Shobeir, Al Ahly’s star presenter, both parties have reached an agreement on the terms of the contract. The Portuguese coach is expected to earn a monthly salary of 1.5 million dollars.
What should you know about José Gomes?
At 54 years old, the native of Matosinhos has managed several Portuguese clubs, including Chaves, CS Marítimo, SD Ponferradina, and UD Almería. He also had a stint with English side Reading between 2018 and 2019.
He knows Egyptian football well, having coached Zamalek in 2024.
