Atlas Lions: Benchaouch to replace Bounou?

Young AS Monaco goalkeeper Yanis Benchaouch could be the big surprise on Morocco's upcoming squad list.

The “Atlas Lions” will face off next June against Benin's Squirrels and Tunisia's Carthage Eagles as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the final phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The young Monegasque keeper will most likely replace Yassine Bounou, who will be committed with his club Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Club World Cup.

What should you know about Yanis Benchaouch?

In eight matches with AS Monaco's U21 side, the Moroccan shot-stopper has played eight games, conceding 10 goals and recording two clean sheets.

He also featured in six matches during the last Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, where he conceded four goals.
