Barça drops pursuit of Denzel Dumfries
Denzel Dumfries is not expected to join FC Barcelona this summer. Despite initial interest and agent Jorge Mendes stepping in to facilitate the deal, the Catalan club has ultimately decided not to move forward.
The main reason? A financial package deemed unworkable by the Blaugrana management. With a salary estimated at €25 million and a release clause set to increase, Inter Milan’s right-back is no longer a priority for Deco and Laporta. Especially since the club’s current focus is on strengthening the attack, with negotiations ongoing for Luis Díaz (Liverpool) and Marcus Rashford (Manchester United).
On the right side of the defense, Flick will now have to rely on in-house options: Jules Koundé, Éric García, Héctor Fort, and Gerard Martín. Ironically, Dumfries had shone against Barça in the Champions League, netting a brace at Montjuïc and providing an assist in the return leg at San Siro, knocking the Catalans out in the process. But barring a dramatic turn of events, the Dutchman will remain a nightmare for Barça defenders—rather than a reinforcement.
