Cameroon - Elite One (Matchday 10): Gazelle FA stages comeback against Aigle Royal to take the lead

Gazelle FA of Garoua pulled off a dramatic home comeback, defeating Aigle Royal de la Menoua 2-1 in the opening match of Cameroon’s Elite One Matchday 10. This hard-fought victory, clinched in the dying moments, propels the Sky Blues to the provisional top spot in the league.

The match got off to a lively start in Garoua, with Aigle Royal de la Menoua looking well organized. The visitors quickly capitalized on their solid opening as Eden Ymele broke the deadlock in the first half, giving his side the advantage.

Struggling to find their rhythm, the home side had difficulty imposing their game against a disciplined and effective opponent, especially in transition.

Gazelle FA turns the tide

After the break, Gazelle FA came out with renewed intensity. Showing more ambition, Maël Fernandez’s men gradually took control of the match. Their pressure paid off from a perfectly delivered corner by Jordy Youmba, met decisively by Mitterand Wanre for the equalizer. Boosted by the goal, the Sky Blues ramped up the pressure on the visitors’ defence.

A decisive penalty in stoppage time

Just as the game seemed destined for a draw, the turning point arrived deep into added time. On a dangerous run into the box, Jordy Youmba was brought down by Adoumou Lifap. The referee didn’t hesitate to point to the penalty spot.

Kalgon Kada stepped up and coolly converted, sealing victory for his team in the final seconds.

Gazelle FA back on top and all smiles

This win allows Gazelle FA of Garoua to snap a run of three matches without a victory and temporarily seize the top spot in the standings.

A standout performance from the Sky Blues, who can also take pride in the form of their key players, with Jordy Youmba making a decisive impact and Dave Tessa recently named Elite One’s Player of the Month for February.

This hard-earned win underlines Gazelle FA’s ambitions for the 2026 season.
