Facing the media after Morocco’s impressive victory over Comoros in the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Walid Regragui addressed the situation of Achraf Hakimi.

On Sunday evening, Morocco dominated Comoros (2-0) in the opening match of CAN 2025. Atlas Lions coach Walid Regragui opted not to field right-back Achraf Hakimi. The Paris Saint-Germain star, who recently returned from an ankle injury suffered on November 4, remained on the bench and did not feature in the match. At the press conference, the Moroccan coach expressed strong confidence in his Parisian star.

"Hakimi is coming back. In fact, he’s returned faster than we expected. We’re being very cautious because we really want him available for this tournament. We don’t want to bring him back just for 20 minutes or a single match, so we’ll see how he is over the next 48 hours. We’ll see if he can start against Mali (on Friday). As I said before, will he start or not? We’ll make that decision at the last moment, but in any case, we’re confident he’ll play in this edition of the CAN and we’re eagerly waiting for him," Regragui assured.
