Ghana finished fifth in the tournament, thanks to a superior goal difference compared to the other teams eliminated in the quarterfinals.

In the group stage, the Black Satellites topped their group after narrow victories over Senegal and the Central African Republic, and a draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo (1-1).

In the quarterfinals, they were knocked out by Egypt on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
