CAN U-20: The history of head-to-head encounters between Nigeria and South Africa

Nigeria will take on South Africa this Thursday in a crucial semi-final match of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

In the quarter-finals, the Flying Eagles booked their spot via a nerve-wracking penalty shootout against the reigning champions Senegal, while the Amajita clinched victory by the slimmest of margins over the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Their first encounter ended in a draw during the U-20 AFCON. Later in the same tournament, they met again in the third-place playoff, where South Africa edged out Nigeria 5-3 on penalties. A few months later, Nigeria managed to take their revenge with a 2-1 win in a friendly match.
