With 3 points secured on the opening day, Mamelodi Sundowns have taken control of Group F at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, ahead of two global football giants: Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense.

The group got off to a balanced start, marked by a goalless draw (0-0) between Dortmund and Fluminense. But the South Africans pulled off a surprise by edging past Korea's Ulsan Hyundai with a narrow 1-0 win, notching the first African victory in this newly expanded 32-team edition.

After the match, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso didn't hide his satisfaction: "It's a very positive result in a high-level tournament. We were well-prepared, both mentally and tactically. We controlled the first half and, despite missing a few chances in the second, we managed to hold on to the lead."

He added with ambition: "Taking part in such a competition is a dream for us. We'll keep working hard to go as far as we can."

Thanks to this successful start, the Sundowns have made their ambitions clear: to proudly represent the African continent and compete with the world's best clubs.
